I will always remember the adventures on Martyโs hand built sailboat in the San Juan Islands as a little girl. Sunriver, Fort Stevens, our 2 families with all us kids frolicking. Sorrys never say what I want them to say, but I am so sorry Bev, Rudy, and Jesse.

Hi, my name is Katie. I am a student at Walla Walla University. I had a class from Marty last year and I just so happen to live across the street ( the house to the right of the mailboxes). I would often see Marty driving or walking and he always would smile or wave at me.
I noticed that I didnโt see him driving or walking anymore and I wondered if he was okay. I thought about stopping by but never got the chance. When I learned what had happened I was both sad and shocked. I appreciated his kindness and genuine care for his students. I bet he was a great father, husband, and grandpa. He will be missed!
Always enjoyed my conversations with Marty. He was very smart, but he never made you feel stupid. My first encounter with Marty was when John and I first moved to College Place, Nancy Cleveland invited me to go on the Pathfinder Campout. and the next I took a class from him. He was always helpful. He was so supportive when John had to give up his job and our fight against cancer. Great friend.
He sure enjoyed his grandson, they were great pals.
He will be missed. Bev, Rudy and Jessie hugs and hugs.
You will be greatly missed.
Dear Bev, Rudy, and Jesse - My heart has been hurting for you so much since that awful day that Marty was taken away. Thank you for sharing this service online so I could view it. Rudy, you made your dad proud with that tribute and life sketch.
I will forever be grateful that Bev and Marty welcomed a struggling college student into their home and family, giving me a job when I first arrived in College Place thanks to an introduction from Doyle & Erma Stevenson. Rudy and Jesse were just toddlers then. I did data entry for the MLS and the nursing homes. Always a joke with my family that I could never go into the medical profession because I fainted just hearing about medical procedures and here I was spending hours typing in diseases, diagnoses, and treatments into the computer. Happily, you all never had to deal with me fainting while typing.
I knew Marty to be patient, curious, always learning, a man of all trades....and yet, watching this I see I only knew this tiny, tiny particle of who he was. So many interests and accomplishments I knew nothing about. What an amazing, amazing, amazing man.
My heart goes out to each of you and your extended family. You've been and will continue to be in my prayers.
Peace and courage!

What a beautiful memorial to Marty. His impact on so many people he knew will be remembered for years to come. The program you all put together was a real tribute to his life.
I have wonderful memories of Marty. Particularly of his amused, jovial laugh. He was always in the backdrop, always, always working on projects (which were laid out all around the Scott home)! I particularly remember a sailboat under near constant construction and numerous computers splayed across rooms, perhaps even in hallways. He played a part in my discovery and curiosity for computers and science fiction. By far my most fond memory is of Pathfinders, which he and Rudy led, which seemed to combine so many of his interests. Marty will be missed.
Thank you for sharing the livestream link. Rudy, what a beautiful tribute you put together.
Always a pleasure, through the years, to meet this Christian Gentleman on the WWC campus or in the halls at Rogers. In recent years Marty has helped Rudy keep my computer in line.
Marty's memorial service was very interesting and well put together. I'm sorry I couldn't be there in person to support the family. I caught a bad cold and didn't want to disrupt the service with my coughing. Thank you for sharing his service online with those of us that couldn't make it. The last time I saw Marty was just a few months ago. He was so happy to be teaching at Whitman and said the faculty/staff were so grateful to have him there. He was very happy....that is my last memory of him. Beverly, you have my deepest sympathy. Thankfully, we will see him again when Jesus comes to take us all home and Marty will continue to study and learn.
I'm sorry for your loss! Rudy, your sharing during the service was wonderful.
Always a smile, laugh and excitement about life and its wonders. Whether on campus, out on a walk, or elsewhere, we enjoyed seeing Marty and hearing what was piquing his interest at that moment. He shared joy.
So much experienced and shared in Marty's shortened life. We admired him largely from afar. Your loss is incalculable. May memories and promises combine to bring a measure of comfort in the days ahead.

I met Marty for the first time in a web programing class. I was a student and he was the professor. Straight up HTML, back in the day. Then it was pathfinders, the observatory and so many other things. He was interested in many areas and loved to chat about all of them. He will be much missed.
We are so sorry for your loss. Though we never had the chance to meet Marty, we can see him reflected through Jesse. It certainly is a testament to how Marty raised his sons, and we are grateful to have known him, even in that small measure.
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. I remember Marty coming to our house to run some wire so Rudy could hook up a second internet box for us.
Attended PUA 1965-1967 with Martin. I am very sorry for his familyโs loss.
